Republicans Get Crushed

It was all predictable.  I gave warning signs in 2025 when the Trump administration was kidnapping legal immigrants for speaking against the Israeli state.  I had already turned sour on the Trump administration in late March 2025.

Then the first attack on Iran came.  That one only lasted 12 days, but it was Trump already breaking his campaign slogan (sometimes) of keeping us out of new wars.  Coupled with his tariffs and his overall belligerent foreign policy (who threatens to invade Greenland?), Trump had gone full authoritarian.

Trump became the caricature that the left had tried to paint him as for the last decade.

Once Trump and Israel attacked Iran in late February 2026, I knew the Republicans were going to take a beating at the next general election.  The House was bound to go to the Democrats no matter what because the majority was so slim, and it is typical for the party opposite of the president to pick up seats in a mid-term election.

I was not surprised at all that the Democrats easily took the Senate.  The Republicans in Congress are mostly scared of Trump.  They don’t want to be on the receiving end of a social media post.  Ask Massie and MTG.  The problem is that Trump led the Republicans over a cliff.

Trump was bragging in the primaries about all of his endorsed candidates winning.  But winning a primary doesn’t do much good if you lose in the general election.

Florida

In my home state of Florida, Byron Donalds held on to win the race for governor.  He was endorsed by Trump early, but all of his recent ads don’t mention Trump.  Donalds emphasized that he was endorsed by Ron DeSantis, who still remains somewhat popular in Florida.

There was also a big state amendment that passed.  Amendment 3 should reduce property taxes significantly for primary owners.  In Florida, a state amendment has to get over 60% to pass.

It wasn’t so much Democrats versus Republicans on this amendment.  It was more homeowners versus non-homeowners.  Overall, I think it is positive for liberty.  The state is flush with money from the increased population and increased home values.

While Florida stayed red, it should be noted that Donalds’ victory was quite narrow compared to how much DeSantis won by in 2022 coming off of COVID hysteria and lockdowns.  It was probably the best-case scenario for Floridians.  Donalds won, but only by a narrow margin.

Trump Blame

The reactions are interesting.  Trump, in typical fashion, blames everybody but himself.  He was blaming Fox News last night.  It will be funny if Fox News turns fully on Trump.

JD Vance correctly blamed the war against Iran for the big losses nationwide.  Part of me says it is a little too late.  But even if he is saying this for political reasons, at least he is aware.

I’m waiting for Trump to announce that he is firing Vance, only to realize that he can’t fire the vice president.

Vance would really have to take a hard stand against the war at this point and survive the wrath of Trump in order to have any chance at winning the presidency in 2028.  Trump really destroyed Vance’s chances at becoming president in a couple of years.  He probably destroyed the chances for any Republican unless the Republican Party takes a hard turn towards a truly anti-war candidate like Tucker Carlson or Thomas Massie.

What’s Ahead?

We don’t know what we will get in the coming weeks from Trump.  He will probably continue the war against Iran because he doesn’t want to admit defeat.  He will likely fire some people in his cabinet, including the evil (and rather dumb) Pete Hegseth.

I hope Trump makes good on his promise of vetoing legislation coming from the Democrats.  We all know though that the welfare and warfare state will continue.  The Democrats are unlikely to deny funding for Trump’s wars.  Trump is unlikely to veto welfare spending with a few exceptions.

The Democrats winning is bad, but the Republicans deserved to lose.  Let’s hope that the Democrats at least provide some real opposition to Trump’s most egregious things.  They can also tie down Trump with more investigations and impeachments.

And when Trump finds himself all alone, I will have no pity on him.  He followed the war hawks and their evil policies.  He shunned those of us who criticized these policies.  He deserves to go down in disgrace.
